Basic Theatre Exercise
Theatre is like a art and have some exercise which needed to
be performed by a theatre artist in order to polish his/her skills. It include many things like breathing
exercise, voice exercise, expression exercise and many more. Today we are going
to talk about this exercise which ultimately help in improving the performance
of theatre artist. It includes
1. Trust building
2. Emotional activities
3. Voice exercises
1. Trust building exercises are basically important because
it ultimately increase the trust of the artist on his/her team. Sometimes we
all see that there are number of scenes which includes jump, lifting, falls
etc. If a person is not trusted on other person then ultimately he/she has the
fear which will be seen on face of the artist. It include some exercise like
lift in which player lies on the floor with the group surrounding her or him.
Each member of the group is responsible for lifting a part of that player’s
body. The group lifts the player gradually up over their heads. This exercises
ultimately help in building trust.
2. Emotional activities:- We have seen many times in theatre
that the same artist has to play various role which varies in emotions. This
exercise help person to become like a water so that he can bend his emotions in
the shape according to the situation.
Exercises like HASH (Happy – Angry – Sad – Happy) help in exploring the
feelings and emotions of a person. In this each player counts to ten. As they
count, they move through the emotions: happy – angry – sad – happy. (For
example, on 1-2-3 they might be happy, on 4-5 they might be angry, on 6-7-8
they might be sad, and on 9-10 they are happy again.)
3. Voice exercise:- Voice is one of the most important thing
which help in depicting that whether the person is angry, sad, happy, joyful
and much more. In this breathing play a major role as good breathing habits are
the base of a good voice. In this exercise the artist feels each breath is
going down into your lungs with each inhale and pushed up each time you exhale.
In this relaxation is taught throughout
the breathing and speaking to reduce tension in the neck, shoulders, jaw and
back.
This exercise are the basic and should be practiced by the
theatre artist in order to polish his/her skills.
